Covering an area of 16089 ha, this region was designated protected area in 1990. Located in Hamedan Province, it’s a mountainous and plain area with an altitude range of 1800-22

 

820 m and mean annual temperature and precipitation of 9 C and 350 mm, respectively leading to a cold semi-arid climate. Diverse mountainous and plain habitats have prepared suitable conditions for various animals. The region boasts an exceptionally high biodiversity. The most important plant species of the region are fig, mountain almond, willow, thorn, prickly thrift, astragal, blue-bottle, chiches, European glorybind, fix weed, carnation, thistle, iris, ziziphora, wild Syrian rue,acanthofyllum, Persian globe thistle, crown imperial fritillary, medic, succor and rhubarb. Some of the main animal species of the region are wild goat, wild sheep, wolf, jackal, common fox, Indian crested porcupine, cape care, badger , hyena, golden eagle, sparrow hawk, kestrel, owl, chukar partridge, see-see partridge, red-billed chough, skylark, starling, slender racer, small-scaled diadem snake and Dione’s snake. High animal and plant biodiversity, beautiful mountains, natural features, proper access roads and proximity to population centers have facilitated educational, research and tourist activities in the region.
